Scrub Bashing at Burngreave Recreation Ground
Residents of Burngreave are being offered the chance to get involved in environmental conservation activities in order to improve their health.
BTCV Green Gym is running sessions on Monday 8 May, Monday 15th May and Monday 22nd May at Burngreave Recreation Ground from 10am until 2pm.
Residents can join in with the scrub clearance work or just come along for a chat and to see what improvements are being made.
Sian Hughes, Project Officer with BTCV Green Gym in Burngreave, said:
“Burngreave is full of fantastic parks and green spaces. Getting out into the fresh air and helping to conserve these natural resources is a great way to increase physical activity and improve general well-being, without the pressure or expense of a traditional gym. There’s the social aspect too, meeting new people and working as a group to learn new skills and achieve positive goals, which is great for boosting self esteem”.
The work is part of an ongoing plantation-thinning project in partnership with Sheffield City Council's Burngreave Community Forestry Project. By balancing a native and non-native mixture a habitat of value and local interest can be sustained.
