Visitors bring an international flavour

One of Sheffield's most diverse and vibrant communities has been paid a visit by some very important guests.

Nine British ambassadors from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and British Diplomatic Missions brought an international flavour to proceedings when they were welcomed by Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC).

To increase understanding of domestic issues and to see how they play out in practice, ambassadors have regular briefings across the UK to familiarise themselves with major initiatives or projects such as New Deal. It is also important for them to learn about programmes such as BNDfC which have been set-up in the UK to tackle issues that they may come across in the countries to which they are posted.

After being greeted in Burngreave by Rose Ardron, Chair of the BNDfC partnership board, and John Clark, BNDfC Chief Executive, the ambassadors were taken on a tour of the BNDfC area.

This included looking at the site of the new Sure Start building which will become the children's centre for Burngreave, Pitsmoor Adventure playground which is the only supervised play space in Burngreave, the neighbourhood shopping centre around Spital Hill and Abbeyfield Park which is set to receive a major overhaul in the next year.

The party moved on to see the Catch the Drift youth project for children who are excluded or are in danger of exclusion from school.

John Clark, BNDfC Chief Executive, said: "This was a very worthwhile visit which gave us the opportunity to show the ambassadors the outstanding work being undertaken in the area by Burngreave New Deal for Communities in real partnership with local people."
