Staggered elections for continuity
There are ten community representatives on the BNDfC board. From the 2005 election they will be elected to carry out a four-year term. Open elections for resident board members will be held every two-years, but only half of the ten places allocated for residents will be contested each election to ensure continuity and stability on the board.
Even representation from all over Burngreave
To increase the geographical diversity of resident board members, elections will be promoted equally in all areas within the BNDfC area.
Young people
There are two extra places on the BNDfC board this year especially for young people aged between 16 and 25.
Expenses
All costs incurred as a board member are reimbursed. Childcare and transport are offered if needed, so that members can attend meetings and events.
Induction
Resident board members will undertake a three-month induction period before taking up their position. This will include a comprehensive training programme and shadowing existing board members.
Development
A plan to improve skills and knowledge, including the use of personal learning plans, is currently being developed. On offer will be more support through formalised and individual learning and development programmes. This training will be funded and related to board members roles.
Getting the Investors in People standard will also provide BNDfC with a framework to ensure all staff and board members have the right skills, knowledge and motivation to perform efficiently.
