Burngreave Voices

Celebrating our stories

Burngreave Voices is a community heritage project that aims to bring to life and celebrate the history of the area through the stories of Burngreave residents. By involving local people in a series of events and activities, the project aims to gather together the stories of individuals, families and whole neighbourhoods to document some of the changes in the area and tell them from a personal perspective.

What will the project do?

Over the next three years Burngreave Voices will:

  • Collect and record the stories of residents,

  • Set up displays and exhibitions on issues of local interest,

  • Run a programme of events such as family history fun days,

  • Offer short courses on local history,

  • Develop a local history resource pack for schools,

  • Offer walks, tours and workshops on local themes,

  • Produce a website and a community book that will celebrate the rich heritage of the community in Burngreave.

The project will provide an opportunity not only to share the stories of people and places in Burngreave, but also to bring these to a wider audience and present a positive image to the rest of Sheffield that seldom gets aired.
