Jobs and training was the name of the game for Burngreave residents when an exciting new scheme was launched in the area.

The ‘Apprenticeships for All’ programme has been created to offer employment and training opportunities to the people of Burngreave.

Funded by Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC) and the Learning and Skills Council South Yorkshire, the scheme will be managed by Sheffield City Council's Employment Unit.

It is open to people aged between 16-60 and offers a wide range of apprenticeship employment opportunities in a variety of occupations and trades. The Apprenticeships programme will include work experience or an employment opportunity and the study of an NVQ in levels 2 and/or 3. All these will be directly related to the apprentice's chosen occupational area.

In addition to the practical support, accredited training and aftercare provided by the Employment Unit, there will also be extra help available such as language support.

A launch event took place providing an excellent opportunity to find out how this exciting new employment initiative will benefit local individuals, businesses and the community of Burngreave. Representatives from all organisations involved were available to talk to.

Teresa Jolley, Employment and Training Manager for Sheffield City Council's Employment Unit, said: “BNDfC are committed to the provision of quality employment and training initiatives for residents of Burngreave. Through Sheffield City Council's Employment Unit, Apprenticeships for All will take forward this commitment by providing work experience, training and additional support for people of all ages from the Burngreave community.”

John Clark, BNDfC Chief Executive, said: “Apprenticeships are an excellent way of overcoming skills shortages and gaps in our workforce. By employing an Apprentice from Burngreave, your business will benefit from an enthusiastic individual who wants to work and at the same time you will contribute to the regeneration of Burngreave.”
