A top Government official has made an important visit to a Sheffield community to see at first hand the excellent work that is being done in the area.
Alan Bowman from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister was shown around Burngreave by Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC).
He spoke to local people and saw the interventions that BNDfC is making to address the social and economic issues in Burngreave. This included visits to the New Deal police team who provide a community policing service in response to local priorities and Burngreave Community Radio Station, a pilot station that BNDfC is funding that the whole community has benefited from.
Mr Bowman, Head of Programmes at the Neighbourhood Renewal Unit, explained that he was very impressed with what he saw. He said: “It is clear that Burngreave New Deal for Communities has a clear vision around investing in the people of Burngreave and I look forward to seeing the outcome of the projects in a few years time.”
John Clark, Chief Executive of BNDfC, said: “We were delighted to meet Mr Bowman and show him some of the key developments that are taking place within Burngreave. Visits like these are important because they recognise the hard work of everyone involved in this community who are making positive changes to the area.”
BNDfC was awarded a £52 million Government grant from the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister to regenerate Burngreave over a ten-year period (2001-2011). It works in partnership to change and develop local services and to ensure that BNDfC brings long-term improvements to mainstream services and facilities in response to the priorities of local people.
