Burngreave has been getting the chance to show off its development to a special set of international visitors.
Twenty delegates from all over Europe, including Finland, Holland and Uzbekistan, were welcomed to the area by John Clark, Chief Executive of Burngreave New Deal for Communities (BNDfC), to view at first hand the excellent work that is taking place in the area.
The high profile trip was arranged for visitors from the Urban Diversity and Inclusion Exchange, a programme made up of members from twenty-seven cities across Europe, to examine issues of integration and inclusion across Sheffield
First port of call was Spectrum House, where guests were treated to a selection of foods from all over the world.
They were then shown a series of presentations by some of the successful projects available for the community, including displays from Creative Burngreave, which offers small grants and training for artists. Talks were also given from Apprenticeships for All, a project designed to increase skill levels through work based training, and Burngreave Language Support Agency, which helps local residents become multilingual translators and interpreters. The visitors were also treated to performances of singing and dancing by local residents.
The party were then taken on a walking tour of the BNDfC area, to see some of the large transformational projects taking place, including the Vestry Hall, the Surestart Centre and the plans for the Spital Hill masterplan redevelopment
A question and answer session was held with key members of the community, where delegates took part in a lively discussion.
John Clark, BNDfC Chief Executive said: “The visit was a great opportunity to show off Burngreave and promote the excellent work that is taking place here.”
