            Project delivered by the Garden Rooms Arts and Community Studios, running introductory arts and craft courses for adults in Burngreave.

              The Creative Learning Events aimed to provide engaging creative activities to raise awareness of the Creative Courses and encourage the participation of local people in the Garden Rooms Get Creative! courses.

              The courses organised by the Get Creative! project consisted of introductions to a variety of art, craft or media forms. The aim of each course was to embed new creative skills within the communities of Burngreave and to allow new learners a first step back into education.

              • [] Creative Course for Adults

                This course, organised by the Garden Rooms Get Creative! project took place at Firshill Primary School. Ten sessions took place on a weekly basis. All the participants taking part were women and most were of Pakistani origin with children attending the school.

              • [] Introduction to Mosaic Making

                This Get Creative! course took place at St James Church. Krishna Alageswaran and Clare Fairclough led a ten-week introduction to mosaic making. The course covered a broad range of skills including design, using specialist tools, grouting mosaic work and basic clay slab work.

              • [] Spray Can Art

                This was a course organised by the Get Creative! project from February to March 2005 at the warehouse space at the back of SADACCA.

              • [] Take a Photo!

                Get Creative! course that took place at St Peters Church January to March 2005. Photographer and Community artist Allie Carr led a ten-week introduction to photography using traditional SLR cameras and digital cameras.

            • [] Get Creative! Exhibition

              This event was held 25th March – 4th April 2005 to celebrate the achievements of all the participants that took part in the Get Creative! courses.

            • [] Conclusion and Further Comment

              On the whole the Get Creative! project proved to be very successful. Good working partnerships were created between Garden Rooms and a variety of workers and organisations in the Burngreave area…
